Smocked 1890s Blouse

Women’s blouse based off of extant 1890s blouse and adapted for the stage. Worn by “adult woman” in Steven Sater’s Spring Awakening. The blouse is smocked across the chest and back, pleated along the shoulders, gathered at the waist, and pin-tucked down the sleeves (tucks stabilized by surface embroidery).

Major adaptations included changes in color of fabric and embroidery floss, quick rigging for costume changes, a classic dress shirt collar instead of the pleated stand collar, and slightly less fullness in the torso fabric.
